International ASME Student Design Competition

Intro

Last year’s competition required teams to design and build a vehicle capable of collecting solar and wind energy to extend the duration of operation of a remotely controlled vehicle that navigated a course and transported weights to earn points. This design used only a single AAA battery.

Design

The design of our project utilized capacitors along with multiple solar panels arranged in series and parallel. This gave us the necessary energy to power the motors and servos to drive the transporter. We also used as many standard parts as we were able to to cut  down on cost and weight.

Conclusion

The project was successful in that we were able to finish the build by the deadline and we were able to compete. We did not continue to the finals of the competition but we still had the experience of the project.
